Daniel Collins
Skipper of Aletheia, ASA Certified Navigation and Sailing Instruction, Yacht Navigation and Communication Electronics Expert
Daniel is an avid sailor and instructor, amateur photographer, and an electronics guru. He cooks a wicked vegetarian chili, prefers Innis & Gunn beer, and is often seen not far from his Macbook and a beat up Nikon. That pretty much sums up Daniel, unless we also include the fact he is preparing for an epic journey across the Atlantic Ocean, solo. He will be navigating in his own vessel, Aletheia, a 1978 Allied Princess 36-foot ketch #115. She is named after the Greek goddess of discovery, revelation, and truth, and she represents the ideals of the voyage. The first leg of "The Odd A' Sea Project" will ultimately take him around the world via a challenging route featuring the infamous Southern Capes and incorporating a variety of stops in places off the beaten path. Daniel possesses a solid background of international humanitarian aid and backcountry travel experience, having visited 11 countries, including extended trips to Ethiopia and Russia. Although he and his boat are prepared for virtually any eventuality, as with all trips, anything can happen, even surprise attacks by ancient cultures: "In the case of a Viking attack, I'm hopeful that we can just all share a beer or two and spin some yarns about our sea stories, rather than duke it out boat to boat! I'm not very good with a broadsword."
